News - November 2008

Supporting bright ideas and fresh new initiative – you can help.

The Guardians of the Sea Charitable Trust is here now to champion and support initiatives that promote healthy and productive fisheries.

Since early this year, the board of The Guardians has been privileged to financially help dedicated people and organisations whose work promotes ‘more fish in the water’. For an inspiring example of new ideas and practical innovation, see the story of the Nancy Glen (NZFN October 2008).

The achievements made are positive and for the benefit of all current and future New Zealanders.

To empower our grants The Guardians seek to inspire the public, whose kind donations enable our provisioning of more projects, people and organisations whose work aligns with our charitable objects. The Trust Deed guides all decisions, and if in any doubt the board refers to legal counsel for guidance.

So much can and is being done in order that our marine environment and fisheries are healthy and productive going forward. You can help, and receive a tax deduction on donations. We also encourage your consideration of a future pledge and/or bequest.

The Guardians also support initiatives that promote public awareness, understanding of the issues, and the need to respect this precious resource. We assist engagement in fisheries management processes, gear innovations that save fish, and environmental improvements. We have resourced your advocacy via The NZ Big Game Fishing Council, option4, and the Hokianga Accord in their inspired efforts, co-operation, and work for the common good.
We are determined to achieve healthy fisheries, enabling future generations to enjoy the marine environment and access to a reasonable bag. Fish caught ourselves is food appreciated, it’s healthy, it’s good, and it’s satisfying.

The search is on as we seek more shining lights – people and practices that improve respect, abundance and awareness of our precious moana (marine environment). They inspire us, as we seek to inspire you.

Get in behind this Trust and show your support for healthy fisheries. Visit www.guardians.org.nz to make a secure tax deductible donation. Please let friends and family know that the Guardians of the Sea Charitable Trust is working for them to foster improved fisheries for the benefit of everyone.

To those who have donated already, thank you for your willingness to assist this essential work.
